I have finally discovered the Widest Snowboard On Earth
After experiencing toe and heel drag for my entire snowboarding career… I have finally discovered the “Widest Snowboard on Earth”!
I have size 15 boots, so toe and heel drag has driven me crazy for years. I’m not sure what took me so long, but a quick google search for “what is the widest snowboard made” yielded me results that directed me toward Elan’s El Grande. I have a feeling my next snowboard purchase is rapidly approaching… and the Elan El Grande is at the top of the list.

Anyone have any experience with Elan boards?

I want one of these too. I don’t know where to buy one.
i know! i found one place… and they are sold out.
These are IMPOSSIBLE to find. I read a blog somewhere and the dude was sayin’ that he got one from Canada somewhere… and paid an ass-load for shipping. Lol!
Have a look at Artec’s board. The Phenom comes in length upto 167 and a 285mm waist. The same width as the El Grande, and it has sweet performance to match

Thanks Malks! I’ll look into it for sure!
The widest board made was the 1998-2000 range of Ride All Mountain Wide boards. I think the waist width was around 270mm, which is wider than any of today’s boards. I’m a size 15, and I rode that board for 8 years, until I broke it. I have not since been able to find anything quite as wide, but with the toe-raise system, I am able to still ride boards around 265mm wide without too much toe drag. I heard Elan was releasing one that was going to be “the widest board ever”, but it isn’t as wide as my Ride was.
I would much rather have a wider board than the toe raise system, because the new binding system really limits your feel of the surface, and makes a lot of tricks damn near impossible, since you’re already standing with your feet in a flexed position. It may be fine if you’re riding giant pipes and doing crazy jumps, where you don’t really do anything but carry over speed and then do your thing, but when you’re trying to do any flatland tricks, or anything that requires a feel of the snow, it’s horrible.
I did get the elan… it is 284mm, so it is wider… but I like to ride powder and it is not the best board for that (for my riding style). It seems to be fine on the groomers and fast runs on hard pack… but, I prefer reverse camber powder riding
I currently ride a Never Summer Legacy from 2007-08 and it is 270mm… my 15′s get major heel edge drag when I am traversing heelside on steeps, but other than that… I am generally good to go.
LIB has a SUPER wide pow (only) board… their Banana Hammock comes in 300mm wide… but, the sidecut and whatnot are made strictly for floating in deep pow.
I agree with you… I have tried the riser system, but was not that impressed. The “feel” was not the same… and to me, it just added weight and more parts/screws to come loose. haha
