2003 Dodge Dakota Stereo Wiring Diagram

Hope this makes your google’ing for 2003 Dodge Dakota Factory Stereo wiring diagrams a little less time consuming, but first the background story…

this story begins as my last 5 car stereo installs have… I track down a wiring harness, dash kit, and antenna converter for my new (to me) truck… buy them… tear apart my dash, wire up the harness… then find out that the so called “factory” harness doesn’t fit the harness in my dash.

I’m not sure why I still bother spending the $20+ on a harness, when I end up manually wiring the deck anyway… but I fell for it again.

This time the install was on my 2003 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab…. with darkness setting in… I go to plug in the harness only to find that it didn’t fit.

After cursing for a minute, I quickly decide there is NO WAY I’m putting that dash back together with the factory/shitbox stereo. I run into the house to google a wiring diagram for a 2003 Dodge Dakota and retrieve a flashlight. I get the diagram out to the truck and find that it doesn’t match my wires :-/

After google’ing a few more minutes, I find a post on some random Dakota owners forum that talks about having the same issue and provides an alternate wiring diagram (which matches the 2001 Dodge Dakota wiring diagram). This new diagram (listed below) matched up perfectly… and I am now crankin’ fresh non-factory tunes in my ride.

The following diagrams are to help out anyone that runs into the same issue that I did.

This one worked for my 2003 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab:

  • Constant 12volts + Pink
  • Accessory 12volts + Red/white
  • Illumination 12volts + Orange
  • Dimmer circuit variable 12volts + Tan
  • OE amplifier 12 volt remote on, if equippped: Dark green/red
  • Ground is the black wire with the 1/4″ spade terminal on the radio chassis
  • Left front spkr + Light green/violet
  • Left front spkr – Light green/dark green
  • Right front spkr + Light blue/violet
  • Right front spkr – Light blue/black
  • Left rear spkr + White/red
  • Left rear spkr – White/black
  • Right rear spkr + Tan/violet
  • Right rear spkr – Tan/black

Here’s another variation… didn’t match mine, but just in case your Dakota Wiring Schema is like this one:

  • Car Radio Battery Constant 12v+ Wire: Red/Blue
  • Car Radio Accessory Switched 12v+ Wire: Red/White
  • Car Radio Ground Wire: Chassis
  • Car Radio Illumination Wire: Black/Yellow
  • Car Stereo Dimmer Wire: Orange
  • Car Stereo Antenna Trigger Wire: N/A
  • Car Stereo Amp Trigger Wire: N/A
  • Car Stereo Amplifier Location: N/A
  • Car Audio Front Speakers Size: N/A
  • Car Audio Front Speakers Location: N/A
  • Left Front Speaker Positive Wire (+): Dark Green
  • Left Front Speaker Negative Wire (-): Brown/Red

    just though I’d throw this in.
    I just redid the sound system in my dakota, and the wiring diagram you have is a little different then mine. From what I gathered the extended cab has a little bit of a different wiring system. On mine the Pink/Black is the 12v constant also remember the stock radio has 2 pink/black and 2 black grounds. You only need one in the new system so if you make the mistake like I did and cut the factory harness, you only need 1 pink/black and 1 black. so just be sure to cap the other off.
